Nostalgia Hot Rods and Traditional Customs are becoming so common place
these days, that it’s hard to remember, that not so long back the UK
scene was awash with British iron, fibreglass Street Rods and park and
talk events. Members of the Low Flyers broke that mould and it is
generally acknowledged that without them the UK scene, would today, be
far less interesting.
Terry Howarth and Anna Stevenson formed the EXECUTIONERS CAR CLUB in the
same spirit. The idea was to form a club that would be active, which
would grow slowly, recruit by invitation only and work together to
organise some of the best UK events around. Club member and pinstriper
Simon ‘Weirdo’ Watts designed the now iconic EXECUTIONERS logo.
The club has slowly grown into a tight knit group of friends who work
together to organise shows, runs, and events that are now regarded as
some of the best in Europe. The club has no rules, no committee, and no
fees; instead it has a shared respect for tradition; traditional old
school Hot Rods, traditional Gassers, traditional Customs and
traditional music.
Since forming in 1997, the EXECUTIONERS have been involved in running
and participating in the Gasser Circus and The Flathead Meltdown, as
well as the twice yearly RIOTS at the Ace Cafe London. The Hotrod
Hayride is organised in collaboration with Rockabilly promoter, Jerry
Chatterbox. Having outgrown the first two sites, the Hayride has now
found a home at Bisley Pavilion. It continues to grow and has become the
premier Traditional Hot Rod and Custom event in Europe.
The club now boasts a membership of 26, all active in the club and the
associated activities, building traditional cars and bikes, driving and
racing them together with style.
Although in it’s early days, the Executioners are now active in
California, run by ex UK member Kev Elliott.
